My South America Expedition!
It is finally here! My South America Expedition!
We have been talking for a while about the South America Tour that we want to do , and we have been tossing up what we should or should not include, and in the end we have settled on the best compromise we could come to. We discarded the areas that some people may or may not want to see and settled down to a solid 20 day itinerary that takes in the very Best of South America, covering the Capital City of Peru (Lima) then time in the Sacred Valley of Cusco and Machu Picchu, a visit to Lake Titicaca, time at the astounding Iguasu Falls (pictured above) a visit to Rio de Janiero, and time in Buenos Aires were we take a small ranch stay and visit a local Estancia to get a feel for life on the Pampas!
Book now to take full advantage of all our earlybird and early payment deals including a companion fly free special that when you look at two travellers means you will only end up paying AU$10,746 per person at the moment (if you book within the next 2 weeks we will even include our Film Night Discounts!). You can review the itinerary and basic details here!
Now while we have said we “Cut” the areas that many do not want to see this does not mean they are unable to be added to the trip.
There are an amazing array of pre and post tour options we can look to include on this South American Voyage. if you are looking at something to do Pre-Tour there are Galapagos and Amazon Cruises, Jungle Lodge Stays, the Devils Snout Railway in Ecuador which winds round the small hill villages and volcanoes, there is Chiclayo and Trulijio the home of the Lord of Saipan – the King Tut of South America, or you can head into Southern Peru and visit Arequipa and the Nazca lines, just as a few examples.
Post tour there are just as many amazing extension options from a Cape Horn Cuise to a visit to Patagonia and Terra del Fuego, maybe visit the Colonial Mining town of Salta and the marshlands, or stay in a luxury desert encampment in the Atacama, take an opportunity to move up the Tigre River and spend a few days in the Uruguayan Capital of Montevideo, visit Santiago and the surrounding areas of Vina Del Mar and Valparasio, or take a break and experience the wonder of Easter Island.
So if you have ever wanted to journey to South America now is your change, book aboard our 2nd March 2017 departure and experience the best of South America in some Exceptional Company!

Red, Green and Black!

We have still had a few people having difficulty locating us, having gone to the old office, or other nearby stores. We are on Kinghorne Street on the outside of the Nowra Mall. So, to clarify, we are perhaps 200 meters down the road from our old location .. simply continue on past best and less to the traffic lights, look across the road where Telstra Business Centre stands on the corner and there we are right next Door in our flashy new Black and Green Colours! Just remember if you have pass HCF you have gone too far!
We are still contactable on (02) 4421 5577, though since the move our phones have been having issues – for which we are sorry! or by email on nowra@mytravelexpert.com.au . As usual you should be able to find someone here from 9 am to 5 pm Mondays through to Fridays, and from 9 am to Midday on Saturdays. So if you need to see us, or just want to place our location in mind, please feel free to stop by.
For those that visit our website to get updates rather than just reading their subscribed e-mails or RSS feeds it will come as no surprise that we have had a bit of a facelift, with the website now more reflective of the My Travel Expert and Shoalhaven Solo Sisters branding – in otherwords, its very black and green. Based on feedback for the tours we have been planning and upcoming events we have seriously culled our group departures and will be running no more than 4 departures per year. These will run with a minimum of 2 passengers and will be fully escorted by one of our staff with 16 travellers. For now our 2016 and 2017 tour schedule is as follows ..
- May 2016: My Mississippi (see below notice)
- June 2016: My African Experience. A fantastic journey to take in the highlights of Kenya and Tanzania, run in concert with the African Safari Co.
- August 2016: My Canada & Alaska Encounter. An incredible journey through the Rocky Mountains and Inside passage run in concert with Travelmarvel
- August – September 2016: My Rhine and Rhone Encounter. Two back to back river cruises taking in the best of the Western European River Highlights, run in concert with Travelmarvel
- February 2017: My Mekong Encounter. A delightful Tour through Vietnam ending in Ho Chi Minh City over Vietnamese New Year where you then Cruise to Siem Reap along the Mekong, run in concert with Evergreen Tours.
- 2017, My South American Expedition. is coming, for a first look at this we recommend you contact us and reserve your spot at our 9 September film night, but be quick spaces are limited!
If you receive our regular updates and follow our blog, facebook, twitter or websites you will know that we have been organising a Mississippi Tour with Evergreen to cover the Sounds of the South, a cultural tour taking in the American Music Capitals from Nashville to Memphis to New Orleans, with some time spent aboard a traditional paddlesteamer. It is to our regret that the company owning the cruise boats – the American Queen Steamboat Company – has reallocated their ships in 2016 for a number of private charters, which means we are forced to cancel this programme!
Having said that, there is a similar programme being run with Scenic called the “Southern Belles & Mississippi Cruise”and if anyone would still like to do a voyage that mirrors our original programme then please feel free to contact us and we can give you details on the Scenic programmes.
Once again, My Travel Expert and the Shoalhaven Solo Sisters thank you all for your continued support!
Why You Should Consider Joining Us On An African Experience
While the above image is fairly typical of what most people expect to see in Africa – majestic wildlife, in surreal landscapes – there is much more to an African Experience than just the wildlife sightseeing – even if that will take up a huge swathe of our time. So what else is there to look forward to you may ask?
First we have the natural sights and locations. On our tour we skirt the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. We wonder at the incredible lakes and their bird-life including Lake Naivisha, Lake Manyara and Laka Nakuru. We see the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara and the Serengeti where you even have the chance to take a balloon ride to get it all in perspective. We get a chance to see the unique landscapes of the Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Volcano.
Then there is how we rest at night. While we do have your usual hotel or two we expand on that and take in some of the best ways to encounter Africa with stays at permanent tented camps, some of which are better than local lodges and hotels, seasonal tented camps – located specifically to make wildlife sightseeing easier, and then there is the Ngorongro Farmstead a unique farm-style lodge that bring back tastes of regional Africa. The accommodation itself is part of the experience.
Finally there are the people of Kenya and Tanzania themselves, during our trip we will be able to see the modern cities, traditional villages and lifestyles, we will see Soapstone carving and visit local orphanages.
Wildlife, Stunning Vistas, Friendly People and a variety of accommodation – Africa is a destination with something for everyone. Should you wish to join our departure in June 2016, you can review the tour here, or contact us at My Travel Expert and Shoalhaven Solo Sisters on (02) 4421 5577 or nowra@mytravelexpert.com.au for more details

Experience the Sounds of the South in 2016

In 2016 we are heading off to the USA for a truly unique cultural experience, and while we are waiting for the dates to be set (due to sailings with the American Queen Steamboat Company), now is the best time to secure your space aboard.
From the bustling Modern City of Altanta to New Orleans, the heart of the South, this programme takes in the best of Tennessee and Louisiana, combining the culinary tastes of Cajun, Creole and Classic America with the sounds of Country, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Dixie and Soul.
For over a century the Mississippi and its Tributaries have been a source of life, work, war and culture in the United States. With a combination of Coach Touring and River Cruising this trip takes in the best sights of the Mississippi and surrounds, and covers a wide base of American History, from Slavery to Music, from Mark Twain to the War of Independence.
So if the though of culture, cuisine, history and great music sound appealing, this may just be the trip for you ..
The Sounds of the South Tour is currently in “Pre-sale”, which means we are waiting for dates and prices to be set, but where by placing down a holding deposit of AU$250 per person, you can ensure that when prices launch you will have guaranteed access to the best available prices including companion fares, cabin upgrades and more.
Running this departure in conjunction with the American Steamboat Company and Evergreen Tours, we are able to assure you that we will have one of the most inclusive possible programmes where even the hassle of learning how to handle tipping and gratuities is mostly taken care of.
So read on for a look at what we expect to experience and cover during this 14 day programme.
Pre-Cruise Tour:
Before we head off on the cruise portion of the trip we start by covering a dew places not easily reached within a day tour of the Mississippi and well worth incorporating into a tour based around the musical history of the USA. This section of the tour starts with an overnight in Atlanta to accommodate guests arriving into the states before it heads out to cover two important music centres of the region ..

Nashville: Home of country music in the USA, we will walk Honkey Tonk Row, take a guided tour of the Ryman Auditorium, see Studio B, visit the country Music Hall Of Fame and much more.
Memphis: Birthplace and home to music legends, this city is associated with music legends like B.B King and Aretha Franklin to modern day chart toppers like Justin Timberlake. While here we visit the famous Sun Studio, “Gracelands” the home of “the King” Elvis Presley, enjoy time in BB Kings Blues Club, discover Beale Street and more!
The American Queen:
One of the highlights of this tour is the cruise aboard the American Queen, a traditional styled steamboat / paddlesteamer that will take us on our voyage from Memphis to New Orleans. With its decor set to traditional styles its a taste of American history as you cruise the waterways that inspired the tales of Mark Twain. With nightly entertainment reflecting the regional history and culture, fantastic meals daily using local produce to create authentic dishes of local cuisine favorites this is a fantastic way to explore the Mississippi
The Cruise will cover the musical highlights of Memphis, the historic landmarks of Vicksburg, the traditional plantation lifestyle in the South and more as we cruise on down to New Orleans, a boiling pot of cultural influences with some of the most incredible sights in the USA.
The rooms on the Queen of America, start with the Interior cabins on the lower decks working their way up through a variety of cabin types including Outside Cabins with display windows and Verandas to the Deluxe Suites with private Verandahs .. so there is something for everyone in the style of travel.
For a taste, a mere sample, of what the American Queen has to offer, we suggest that you take a look at the following video from the American Steamboat Company (people receiving this blogpost by e-mail will need to visit our site to view) …
Doesn’t that look incredibly appealing? At this stage, as mentioned before, we are waiting for dates in 2016 to be set, but on a similar trip with Evergreen in 2015 you would be looking at a cost of AU$8895 plus airfares, based on per person in share twin starting with the interior cabins. So far it is expected that 2016 prices will be similar, with some variance to be allowed for currency fluctuations and possible rate increases.
My Egypt Experience, 6th – 20th January 2016

We have spoken before about our upcoming trip to Egypt and thought we would stop to again let you know we are gathering numbers for this voyage and would encourage anyone who is thinking of Egypt to join us on this departure. This trip has been prepared by an expert in the local region who has been developing and running tour groups to Egypt for over a decade and who has seen to it that the tour will cover the best of this country!
(If you are unable to see the above video clip we recommend visiting our website or youtube to view the clip directly)
As you can see we will cover the highlights of Cairo from the Pyramids of Giza to the complex at Saqquara, the monuments at Memphis, Saladins Mosque, Khan El Khalili Bazaar, the Egyptian Museum and More. We take in Alexandria including the Roman frescoes, the new library and the Commonwealth War Graves at El Alemain. We cruise the Nile, visiting Luxor and visiting the Valley of the Kings and the Temples of Luxor and Karnak, as well as Aswan where we take in the High Dam, Philae and Abu Simbel, and all the major sights in between including Kom Ombo and Edfu.
This tour has been made to ensure you have the best opportunities for sightseeing, travel and experiences on this trip. As examples here are three things tailored into this tour to bring you the best experiences in Egypt!
1. Cairo Hotels. Our first stay in Cairo is in Giza, so when we head out to sightsee we can spend more time sightseeing and less in traffic, while our second stay is downtown and closer to the attractions we will be visiting on our second stay, and more centralized for your own wanderings in this incredible city
2. Abu Simbel. Many tours have this as an optional, having been there and seen it, we can tell you that after the Pyramids the Temple Complex at Abu Simbel is one of the most incredible sights in Egypt. So we have included it, and rather than wasting over 16 hours by doing it as an overland journey we do it by air, giving more time to enjoy other sights in Egypt then barren rocky roadsides.
3. High Tea. Ok this is one that is hit ans miss with some travellers, but taking High Tea at the Old Cataract Hotel where Agatha Christie wrote Death On The Nile is a great way to get a taste of the old colonial charm that the British Empire brought to Egypt, and watching the sunset over the cataracts while you enjoy a good tea or coffee and light snacks is a fantastic way to end a busy day.
So if Egypt sounds like your “cup of tea”please give us a call on (02) 4421 5577 or email nowra@mytavelexpert.com.au to reserve your space on this departure today!
